A Brief Overview
Perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, and other building systems. Tasks preformed comply with established guidelines stipulated by the NFPA, Joint Commission and the hospital. This position contributes to the fulfillment of the Children's Nebraska mission and vision by ensuring that all preventative maintenance processes, work orders, projects, and systems are properly maintained, functional. And completed in timely manner. Preform preventative maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment including but not limited to water systems, heating/cooling systems, emergency systems. Tasks performed to comply with established regulations and compliance by the NFPA, ASHRAE, Joint Commission and the hospital. The position is also responsible for interfacing with staff, contractors, and vendors in coordinating preventative maintenance activities.

Essential Functions

  • Works collaboratively with maintenance and engineering employees as well as in coordination with all service customers. Ensures all preventative maintenance is performed in timely manner on all assigned equipment in CMMS inventory.  Responsible for the implementation of new equipment as related to preventative maintenance and manufacturers recommendation.
  •  Maintains all building equipment, services and systems including but not limited to boilers, generators, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, environmental, security systems. These systems support the operation of Childrens Hospital, parking facilities and related locations.  Completes building related equipment repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance as assigned. Documents preventative maintenance activities including but not limited to detailed equipment repairs by asset.  Manages Facility department parts inventory, par levels, orders, and reorders.    Assure parts availability to match Preventative Maintenance schedules and requirements to assure PM completion is accomplished on time as scheduled.
  •   Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.   Demonstrates work practices consistent with Childrens Nebraska and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.   Reserve authority to initiate actions as required restoring normal or providing for emergency services from within/outside the hospital in the absence of higher authority.
  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
  • Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required and
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited technical/trade school or engineering college Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 year experience in the mechanical/electrical field Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
  •  Must have the ability to demonstrate in depth knowledge of facility plant operations including but not limited to operation of, and relationship of Boilers, Chillers, Air Handlers, and Compressors
  •  Preferred knowledge or training ability of Medical gas equipment and regulations for compliance and safety.
  • Preferred knowledge or training ability of pneumatic tube station operations and troubleshooting.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current & Valid Third grade license from City of Omaha Upon Hire Required or
  •  Other advanced certification or licensure (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration or other trade specialty) from an accredited local, state, national, or government entity that would be valuable to the healthcare maintenance and engineering industry.
  • Certified HVAC Technician  by accredited technical institute Preferred
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration (HVACR) License by accredited technical institute Preferred
  •  Apprentice level mechanical, electrical, plumbing or HVAC Preferred
  • Journeyman level mechanical, electrical, plumbing or HVAC Preferred
  • Must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record and ability to provide own transportation Required
